Paint the town pink

For those of you that have followed this blog for a while, you may have guessed that I'm quite partial to pale pink. I'm thinking of my sitting room, which I wrote about here, or the magnolia tree outside St. Mary-le-Strand, here.

So you can imagine how happy I was, on my way to a meeting on Grosvenor Street, Mayfair, yesterday, to see a beautiful pink telephone box, with a red door. My favourite combination of colours (as the sharp-eyed will notice, perfectly matching my pink and red Palermo duvet cover from Olatz, which you can spy if you scroll a little way down here).

Sadly, it wasn't to last. As you will have guessed, the pink paint was an undercoat and the guy in the hoodie was the decorator. I think he was a bit perplexed as to why I was taking a photo or two. An hour later, my meeting was finished, and the phone box was red.

Nice to see it being looked after, and smart in its fresh coat of paint. But I was glad to have passed by when I did!

    • Aww, I do wish it had stayed pink... I was thinking it must be as an ad campaign stunt or something. Who knew they had a pink undercoat? :)

    • If you like pink and red then I suggest you pop down the road to see Greyson Perry's motor bike at the British Museum. You can see it even if you don't go into the exhibition.

Oh great I've been dying to get there and now I must. Thank you! Ben

I love the pink too, wish it had stayed! ;)

    • It would be so fun to see the phone boxes in other colours too!

I have been dreaming about suggesting that for the Olympics year all the phone boxes should be painted in a multitude of colours, a vast palette all across London!

I do love red telephone boxes and am so happy to see them being kept up, but the pink was very happy and fresh.

It looks pretty cute as a pink telephone box doesn't it?! It's good to see that the boxes are being looked after - I stopped by a post box recently that had a decorator nearby with his paint brushes and paint trays out. He did a good job as well.
